The photocatalytic surface of SUNOX® materials is made during the production phase of the materials themselves. The particular process and the fact that the catalyst is not consumed as the reaction proceeds, allow to affirm that the surfaces of the SUNOX® materials have a lifetime equal to that of the support material.
SUNOX® surfaces are safe to touch and there is no risk of dust being released as TiO2 is structured with the other chemical compounds which make up the surface.
What are the differences between a SUNOX® covering and a traditional one?
From an aesthetic point of view, the SUNOX® covering is no different from a normal covering. The production processes of the SUNOX® system allow to realize supports and covering for a wide range of colors.
Must I create a SUNOX® environment or can I limit myself to the floor or walls?
All environment surfaces must be covered with SUNOX® material so that an effective disinfection is possible. Recent studies have shown that harmful microorganisms can proliferate both on floors and walls. Only a complete (walls and floors) SUNOX® environment ensures optimum disinfection.
How can I recognize that an environment or a vehicle are equipped with SUNOX® system?
A certification of compliance with the requirements of the SUNOX® system will be issued for each project executed.
Full spectrum fluorescent lamps are needed to trigger the photocatalytic process. The lamps used by the system SUNOX® ensure the activation of the photocatalytic process without any harmful UV emission.
Shall I keep the lights constantly lit?
No, even the intermittent use helps to eliminate bacteria, mold, fungi and viruses. For example, an independent study (Dong & et al., 2009) on the loss of viability of the cells of E. coli by photocatalytic reaction with TiO2 (titanium dioxide) has shown that after 15 minutes of illumination almost all the cells were still viable, however, after 20 minutes only 12% of the cells had retained its vitality. At the end of 30 minutes of illumination more than 96% of the cells had lost their vitality. This study also show that the complete abatement of these cells is achieved after 60 minutes of illumination.
Does SUNOX® work even at low temperatures?
Yes, thanks to the attention paid to the needs of the customer. In environments with temperatures below 0 °C, the conventional fluorescent lamps undergo a physiological loss of efficiency, while the fluorescent lamps used in the SUNOX® environments are designed to ensure an excellent irradiation up to -20 ° C.
